Welcome to the Talent Education Suzuki School (TESS), the premier center for music education in Fairfield County. TESS, located in Norwalk, Connecticut, was founded by musicians and Suzuki professionals Rebecca Christopherson and Jennifer Trahan. The mission of TESS is to provide students with the highest-level of musical training through the Suzuki Method, while fostering the development of musical intelligence, interest, awareness, and appreciation in a positive and nurturing environment. At the same time, our goal is to expose every student to important life-concepts--such as discipline, respect, and self-motivation--that will enable them flourish wherever their endeavors should take them. At TESS, we know the importance of quality from the first lesson! As with anything, good habits need to be developed from the beginning. All of our faculty will guide you through the process of learning good practice habits to ensure the highest level of success for you and your child. Although Suzuki students do learn to play by ear, at TESS we begin music reading during the first book of study. Younger children can take their time in learning to read, as is appropriate to their developmental stage, and older children will learn reading skills as needed to take advantage of the musical opportunities afforded at their age. Suzuki trained professionals are the only private music teachers who receive professional training in teaching instruments to young children. At TESS, our faculty are Suzuki trained artist professionals who will be able to nurture your child through high school, enabling them to take advantage of any level of pre-professional opportunities the student desires to work towards. Because of our comprehensive curriculum, professional faculty, parent support classes, and, most important, love for your child, TESS is the best Suzuki school available in Fairfield County! At TESS, our students love music for life! The Suzuki Method of musical instruction takes advantage of a child’s natural ability to learn language. Music is in essence a language, and through constant listening, observation, and incremental progress, the child is inspired to learn more. The premise of the method is to help children develop the ability to play musical instruments in small, attainable steps, and then to build on the foundation created by each success. The method also teaches the student to become aware of the inherent goodness in all things and how to desire and seek out better quality in all things. Talent, being a natural attribute, can then be taught according to the individual needs of each child . At TESS, our motivation is driven by these two simple concepts: Ability Development and Talent Education. Parents and children are invited to attend our group classes and piano performance classes to see our teachers and students in action. All of our recitals and concerts are free and open to the public, and they are a great way to encourage a natural enthusiasm for music. Parent Orientation sessions are scheduled individually with prospective parents. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to learn more about the Suzuki Method, the differences between Suzuki and traditional instruction, and the opportunities our school provides for students. This free class is the first in a series of learning opportunities specially designed for parents as part of our Parent Education Curriculum.
