Text Box: Our classes are designed to maximize the benefit each child at every step of their development. All class instruction has been developed to enhance essential skills in self esteem, listening, language, social interactions, creativity, and cognitive advancement. They are graduated so that a child may enjoy and benefit from each level from age zero through five. We use a variety of songs that are easily sung by children and parents alike, so that it is natural for them to sing at home as well. There are props, rhythm instruments, and games that keep the pace of the class appropriate and fun. And, of course, the violin, cello, guitar, flute, and piano are all introduced to the children during the semester, giving them the opportunity to listen to each instrument, to try them out, to ask questions about them, and to fall in love with one! When your child is expressing an interest in one or two instruments, it is a great time to talk with one of our Directors about switching to the instrumental program!
Children of all ages are invited and encouraged to observe group classes of their desired instrument throughout the semester, and to attend all of the concerts and special events TESS has to offer. Parents are welcome to attend Parent Education Nights, Orientations, and Open Houses as it is convenient. It is especially helpful if both parents attend an orientation or open house prior to switching to instrumental instruction, even if only one parent will be attending the lessons.

Talent-Ed Kids Classes

Three-year-olds are still moving to the music, playing with props, singing songs, and having fun!  They are also learning to follow directions and mastering such musical concepts as loud and soft, high and low, and fast and slow.  Suzuki concepts for parent and child are previewed in anticipation of a life-long love affair with music!  When children are three, they have the opportunity to try the violin, guitar, flute, and piano when they are highlighted in the classroom.  Anytime after they have attended a three’s class for a minimum of one semester, and are expressing a desire to play an instrument, it is a great time to switch to instrumental instruction!  When you feel it is time, talk with your teacher or with one of the Directors, they will help you in the next steps.

Text Box: Three-Year-Olds
Text Box: Two year olds will be experiencing music by hearing different songs and instruments, and Mom or Dad are learning songs and singing games to play with them at home. They are moving to the music and generally having a blast! At this age, the more the parent participates, the more involved the child will be. They experience the benefits of being grouped with three-year-olds, but experience the class in an age-appropriate way.

Text Box: Zero thru Two-Year-Olds
Text Box: Four and five-year-olds follow very much the same pattern of class, with more structure to suit their age. These students will make great strides towards understanding more complex musical concepts, such as singing on pitch, keeping a beat, and clapping rhythms. They will learn the preliminary rhythms that is instrumental to Suzuki instruction. Parents are equipped for further musical study through an introduction to the musical staff and note-reading skills, as well as a general knowledge of the course of study and special events at TESS.
